What’s New on the Apple iPod Touch – 4th Generation

New features of the Apple iPod Touch - 4G

The first iPod was announced in October 2001 and released about two weeks later. Since then several incarnations of the now iconic portable media player has been introduced. Today, the current iPod line consists of iPod Shuffle, iPod Nano, iPod Classic, and the latest of the lot, the iPod Touch.

The Apple iPod Touch itself has been through four modifications. The first generation was released in September 5, 2007, while the second followed in September 9 of the following year. Precisely one year after the second generation, the third was released, and a day short of one year later, the fourth generation was available for sale.

Built over the successes of its predecessors, the iPod Touch 4G (4th Generation) incorporates improved versions of the older models. In addition to this, it also includes features not found in them.

Among the iPod's new features is FaceTime, something which, although expected to be offered on the iPhone and iPad, was not believed to be incorporated with the portable media player. FaceTime allows you to make video calls to family and friends over a Wi-Fi connection, that is, if they use an iPod Touch 4G, iPhone, or iPad. This is built into the iPod Touch so there is no need to install any apps. Supporting FaceTime is a front facing VGA camera that captures your image while video chatting. It can also be used to take self-portraits in stills.

In addition to the VGA camera, a rear-facing camera that takes both still and video images. Videos are recorded in standard HD (720p) resolution at a rate of 30 fps. And to give more life to your videos, a rear panel microphone is included to pick up the sounds accompanying the images.

If listening to music, chatting with your family and friends, and taking videos and photos eventually tire you, you can tap the Game Center app on the touch screen, and play real time games with anybody with an iPod Touch or iPhone anywhere in the world. You don't only enjoy the stunning graphics, the excitement of the thousands of games that can be downloaded from the links found in Game Center, but also get to expand your social network far beyond the borders of your own country.
